Black Sheep Builders is a family-owned construction company serving Middle Tennessee. What started with a passion for building and working with our hands has grown into a business we’re proud to build together.
Black Sheep Builders does the part of building most people never see, and the part everyone does. The same company that clears the lot, cuts the pad, sets the septic system and trenches the utilities also pours the slab and builds the barndo or custom home on it.
Why “black sheep”?
The black sheep is the one in the field that doesn’t follow the flock. Their line for it is “Built Different. Built to Last.” In an industry where, as they put it, “communication and quality can be hard to find,” they set out to do good work, treat people right, and build things that last. In their own words: “We’re building more than homes — we’re building a reputation people can trust and craftsmanship that stands the test of time.”
Faith, family, hard work
Those three words sit on the company’s banner. On their own website they share one verse: “Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31). And in their words: “For us, it’s about more than just getting a project finished. We believe in treating people honestly, doing quality work, and building something we can stand behind. Whether we’re preparing a piece of land or building a home from the ground up, we put our name and our faith behind the work we do.”
How they work
- Clear communication. You know what’s happening on your land and why.
- Dependable work. The pad, the septic and the slab are planned together, not handed between crews.
- Attention to detail. Spray foam, 2x6 walls, timber porches: the choices that make a house last.
- Pride in every project. “Building homes we’d be proud to live in ourselves.”

Checking any builder
Ask, then verify.
Tennessee requires a state contractor’s license for projects of $25,000 or more, and septic installers need a TDEC permit. Whoever you hire, ask for the numbers and check them yourself.
